DakhaBrakha + Dovzhenko's Earth at the Planetarium
Revisiting the silent film 'Earth' from 1930 confirms that it is still overwhelmingly fresh. The band DakhaBrakha from Ukraine has captured this in a hyper-minimalist musical reinterpretation, and the music and 'Earth' can be experienced in the Planetarium.

Dark Blood
George Sluizer had to drop his modern Western 'Dark Blood' when his young star, River Phoenix, died just 23 years old - ten days before the film had finished shooting. After 20 years of legal battles, Sluizer has finally been able to finish the film. Come on board this cinematic time travel with one of the greatest icons of the 1990s.

Diablo
An old landowner and a strongly Catholic widow is sitting alone in her big house, and every night sees a motionless stooping shadow in the bedroom move closer and closer. A demon? The ghost of her husband? Or maybe just a figment of her imagination? Ramon Mez de Guzman is behind this excellent and extremely well-produced drama, which oozes humour and lures us with a dose of magic realism.

Diego Star
Social commitment stands out admirably in Frédérick Pelletier's debut, which continues the legacy of the Dardenne brothers and shows the bright future of social realism in film. The cargo ship Diego Star encounters machine problems and has to dock at a deserted Canadian port. The likeable engineer Traoré is wrongly blamed for being the cause of the problems, and he embarks on a fateful battle against the ship's owners and the maritime authorities.

Divertimento
Jacques Rivette's re-working of his own, charming Balzac film 'La belle noiseuse' consists primarily of alternative takes, but is an entirely independent film. Michel Piccoli is the painter with painter's block and an unfinished masterpiece in the attic, which is inspired by a young beauty. An intuitive film about creation.

Dormant Beauty
In 2009, an Italian woman woke up after spending 17 years in a coma. The case was notorious in Italy and kicked off a huge debate on euthanasia. Based on this case, Marco Bellocchio has created a strong drama about the topic, without resorting to definite answers.

Down Terrace
Pitch-black humour, kitchen sink realism and a family of losers. Wheatley's debut is an arch-British affair about a father and son who are the kingpins of a corrupt gangster world, which is infiltrated by an informer. But who? Witty, sharp and stylish.

Drug War
The police officer Zhang is faced with the seemingly impossible task of infiltrating and exposing a dirty drug dealing network. In his latest film, movielegend Johnnie To has moved the story from Hong Kong to mainland China, and the result is a sweaty drug-gangster-action film.

Dust on Our Hearts
Kathi's acting aspirations don't take her far in Berlin's fast-paced cultural life, where there isn't really space for her. Neither is there space for her in her family, where her parents in each their own way suck the energy out of the young woman, who is struggling to find herself.
