Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón’s autobiographical ‘ROMA’ – the director’s long-awaited follow-up to ’Gravity’ – will close the 10th edition of CPH PIX.

Alfonso Cuarón’s highly anticipated autobiographical ‘ROMA’ chronicling a year in the life of a small middle-class Mexican family, is set as closing film for the 10th CPH PIX. The Closing Gala will take place on October 10 at the Imperial Cinema in Copenhagen.

The film is distributed by Netflix and only has few announced theatrical releases including the world premiere at Venice Film Festival followed by screenings at Toronto Film Festival, San Sebastian Film Festival and New York Film Festival. The Closing Gala at CPH PIX is the only planned theatrical screening in Denmark.

“We couldn't have asked for a better film to close this year’s festival, and we are proud that Netflix and Cuarón have selected PIX as one of the few festivals to screen ‘ROMA’”, says Festival Director Jacob Neiiendam. “The film captivates you from beginning to end. Cuarón knows how to turn the seemingly ordinary into an extraordinary cinematic experience. It’s an absolutely stunning film so we’re thrilled to present it to our audience at the Imperial cinema.”

Inspired by Alfonso Cuarón’s own upbringing, ’ROMA’ follows a year in the life of a middle-class family in the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City. The beloved nanny and housekeeper Cleo and the family matriarch both get to deal with the prospects of being single mothers, when the men in their lives fail. ‘ROMA’ is told with an incredible empathy, a wonderful sense of historical details, and it is a tribute to all the strong women in the director’s life.

The film is shot in 65mm and will screen in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound.

‘ROMA’ is Cuarón’s first feature film since ‘Gravity’ (2013) for which he won seven Academy Awards, including Best Directing, Best Motion Picture and Best Editing. The film is produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Participant Media.

CPH PIX runs between September 27th and October 10th in Copenhagen. The full festival line-up is announced on September 5. As previously announced Lars von Trier’s ‘The House That Jack Built’ opens the festival on Sep.26.
